The Best Sites and Important Info by Your Location

Here’s what we promised! Below, you’re going to find links to all of the different countries and regions of the world where online gambling is offered. Click the link that corresponds to the country you live in or the country you’re going to be residing in when you want to get some action in. Each page will have dedicated information specific to the country you selected as well as some really awesome recommendations for the top online gambling sites servicing that area.

There is a big difference between where you actually live and where you are playing from with some of these sites. Some gambling sites care about both while some only care about one or the other. With sites that care about both, in order to be able to play with them, you need to live within the confines of their accepted area and you also need to be residing in that area when you’re playing. This is what you can expect from most of the sites within the industry.

There are some sites (and the list is growing) that only care about where you are residing while you’re playing or are logged into the software. You can live somewhere totally different, but as long as you are currently in the areas they service they will take your business. The important thing to keep in mind with these sites, though, is that you probably are only going to be able to log into your account while you’re in one of those areas. This means that if you want to make a withdrawal at a later date, you‘ll need to return to that accepted area in order to log in and get that accomplished.

We have seen gambling sites that will let you play from anywhere in the world as long as you live in the accepted area, but these sites are rare and quickly moving away from this practice. For all intents and purposes, you can go ahead and assume that this is not going to be an option. You will need to at a minimum be within the confines of a site’s accepted area if you want to play their games or make sports bets.

Now, the next logical question that you might have is how the gambling sites go about validating where you live and where you are playing from. Clearly, you aren’t asking this to try and circumvent the process, but you’re just curious. Let’s take a look at the different ways that gambling sites go about validating these two things.

Validating Where You Live

Typically, this is going to be done by either trusting the information you provided or asking you to provide some form of documentation that proves you live where you say you live. Usually, they want a utility bill or bank statement with your name and address on it from the last 3-6 months. They’re usually not too picky about which utility bill or type of statement you provide as long as it does have your name and your address you’re claiming to live at on it.

If you don’t have a utility bill or bank statement in your name with that address, you may have some issues getting validated on your account. If this is the case, contact the site before you start playing or make a deposit to see if they can work with you on things. They want your business and should be able to figure something out to help you. If not, you’ll know before you put any money on the site and can move to a different gambling site to play.

When a gambling site wants to validate where you are playing from, they turn to technology. The lowest level of validation that you’re going to see is using your geographic location on your computer, phone, or tablet (whichever you are playing from). If it shows that you are in the correct area, then you’re going to be good to go. If not, they will usually have some sort of a screen that pops up telling you that you’re not able to access your account or games because you’re in a restricted area.

The newest level of validation that we’re seeing from a few sites (mainly highly regulated sites in the US) is location validation of your phone. So, even if you’re playing from your computer, they will have you provide your phone number so they can ping its location. The sites are assuming that where your phone is tells them where you are. If you don’t have a cell phone or you aren’t regularly in the same area as your phone, then this could be an issue. But for most people who aren’t trying to circumvent the system, this works quite well. Again, though, there are very few sites doing this and most are just relying on location services from your device you’re choosing to play on.

Are There Ways Around Restrictions?

A question that we get asked a lot is whether or not there are ways around these restrictions. Basically, can you play on sites that are not servicing your area without moving? So, before we start to answer that question, we’d like to get a few things out there. First, we highly recommend that you don’t try and do this. Why? Well, if the sites catch you playing from somewhere that you’re not supposed to be playing from, they have the right to close your account and take your money. We’re going to guess this is not something that you want to happen.

Second, there are great options available in every area of the world. Sure, you might not have access to the number one site you wanted to play on if you’re in certain areas, but there are plenty of quality sites out there that you don’t have to risk losing your money and getting your account closed down with.

We just wanted to make sure that was clear before anyone gets any ideas. To answer the question if there are any ways around these restrictions, yes there are, but they require some technology and work on your part. Again, we are only sharing this information for your knowledge, not to give you any ideas especially for the aforementioned reasons.

The most basic way around a lot of these restrictions is to use what is known as a Virtual Private Network (VPN). Without totally nerding out on you, here’s what they do. A VPN allows you to effectively move your computer somewhere else in the world virtually. When other sites see your connection, they will see it coming from a different IP address than where you are actually located.

In the early days of online gambling, a VPN is all you need to trick a site into thinking you were coming from a different country. They still do work at a lot of sites, but we think that’s because the site is playing dumb and can claim ignorance. They’re still doing their due diligence to keep out unwanted players, but they’re not going to go above and beyond even though they probably are well aware of what is going on.

Sites that have wised up and do care about where their player base is from are not easily fooled by VPNs anymore. They’re usually able to detect them and if there is ever a problem with your VPN, there is a chance that your connection will quickly show back up to your actual location. You can imagine that if the site’s systems see Canada Canada Canada USA….they’re going to know something fishy is going on and your account may get flagged.

Remote Access Software

The next way that we’re aware people work their way around these restrictions is by utilizing a second computer within the unrestricted area and using remote access software like TeamViewer to access that computer. Want that in English? Of course. Let’s say you live in the US and you want to play on a site that only services players from Canada. If you’re hardcore about getting on that site, you can find someone in Canada to let you store a computer at their house. You would then use software to remotely access that computer and control that computer from the US. The site would see that computer logging in and would assume everything is fine and wouldn’t know that you’re controlling it from another country.

Now, logistically, this takes a lot of work. You need a second computer as well as someone you trust to house that computer in another country. Additionally, a lot of sites are now not letting people play if they have any sort of remote access software running on their computer. This can be annoying if you’re in web marketing or another profession where you need to use this type of software for non-sketchy purposes.

A lot of you right now are probably asking right now why anyone would ever go through this much trouble? Well, we don’t see it as much from people wanting to play casino games because there are plenty of options in every country. But, we do see it from poker players and sometimes sports bettors who are looking for very specific action and levels of action. Again, we do not recommend this and we have no idea how we know so much about this.

For those that are super hardcore, there are some higher level ways to get around these restrictions that are fairly undetectable by the gaming sites. This involves things like have bridged routers in different countries and things of that sort. We’re not going to go full nerd on you here, but just be aware that there are higher level ways of getting around the system that do exist.

Our Warning, Again

We’ve said this once (or twice) already, but we’re going to say it again. We highly advise you not to try and circumvent the system and gain access to an online gambling site that is not available in your area. You run the risk of getting your account frozen, and the worst case scenario is that they confiscate your funds. If you don’t think this is a reality and you’ll get a slap on the wrist, think again. There are far too many stories out there of online gambling sites shutting down players accounts because they were trying to play from a restricted region.

If you’re looking to play casino games online or sports bet, nearly every country or region has some great options. There is really no reason that you should ever need to try and set up one of these systems to get around that. If you’re a poker player looking to get into the bigger action that’s not available in your country or state, the same warning goes for you. In fact, almost all of those stories of accounts getting frozen and seized are from poker players trying to play in other countries.

If you are dead-set on playing on a site that does not service your region, your only safe option is to move or take “gambling trips” to a region that they do service. After Black Friday in the poker world, a lot of poker players moved to countries like Costa Rica and Canada to be able to play online poker. Others who didn’t want to permanently move would stay living in the states but would travel down to regions accepting action like Mexico or Canada to play for several days or weeks at a time and then return home.

If you do choose to take the gambling vacations, make sure that is okay with the sites you’re interested in playing at. Some of them fall into the category of sites that only allow you to play if you live within the unrestricted regions and are not just visiting. The ones that do allow you to visit do require you to show some additional proof of what you are doing. Make sure you look into all of this before you book your trip or hop in the car to drive across the border. There would be nothing worse than spending the money to be able to play and not being able to play because of some logistical hang-ups.

Take the time to reach out to the customer support of the site you are interested in playing at and let them know what you’re wanting to do. The worst thing that can happen is they say no. But, if you do try and go around them and get caught, you may be permanently banned from the site for life. If they do enter the market that you live in one day, you’re not going to be able to play because of something you did prior. Be smart about things and don’t take unnecessary chances because it really isn’t worth it.

Just as a side note, a lot of this is slowly becoming irrelevant as online poker is returning to the US in force and gambling legislations worldwide are relaxing allowing for more sites to operate in more regions. Because of this, we highly recommend that you check back to these lists often if you aren’t 100% happy with the sites or level of action that you’re getting with your casino games, poker games, or sports betting.

Why Certain Sites Are Not Available In Your Country

Some of you may be wondering why certain gambling sites are available in your country and why certain ones are not. It’s a great question, so let’s take a look at a few of the reasons why.

First, there are certain legal hoops that some sites need to jump through before they are able to operate in certain areas. For example, the legal status needed to operate in the UK is not the same as the legal status needed to operate in the US. Different gambling licenses are needed. These licenses have different costs, availability, and processes to get accepted. So, some sites might not want to or might not be able to be accepted in every country that they would like to operate in.

Second, some online gambling sites actually prefer to specialize to individual markets. At times they will have different sites for each market so it might look like they aren’t everywhere when in reality they really are. Also, some sites do just choose to stay in one market. It’s like a restaurant that doesn’t want to be in every city in the world. Maybe they just want to have one location and really specialize in focusing on the customers there? Basically, there are a lot of “personal” choices that a business can make about where they want to operate.

The last reason has to do with legality. The way certain businesses operate may or may not be accepted in all parts of the world. Occasionally, you’ll see sites that ignore this and choose to operate everywhere without “following the rules.” Other times, you’ll see gambling sites that respect this and only operate where their type of business is accepted. This can deal with how they do their banking, the types of games they offer, or any other aspect of their business. The world is an interesting place, and the legal systems of every country and region are not the same.

If you’re really wanting to play with a particular site, you can always reach out to their customer service and find out if they have any plans to enter your market anytime soon. You can also see if they are already in the market but just operating under a different name or on a country-specific domain name that you’re unaware of. You may be pleasantly surprised to see they are coming soon or are already there.

Do Sites Change Who They Service and Who They Don’t?

Definitely! For a lot of sites, they start out as smaller companies who service specific regions of the world. But, a lot of these companies are not like the restaurant example we gave earlier. A lot of them would love to grow their businesses to other regions of the world. But, when they want to follow the rules and do things the right way, this takes time. They have to apply for licensing, do research on the market and the regulations, and then set up an infrastructure to handle the expansion. Even though they don’t employ actual dealers, they need technical support, customer support, marketing people, and a ton of other positions to handle that sort of growth.

So, just because a gambling site does not currently service your area does not mean that they don’t have plans to expand there. Additionally, legislation and the processes to get into a market also change. Sometimes they will become more relaxed (like what we’re currently seeing in the US) which allows for many online gambling sites to expand and enter the new markets. Other times we’ll see things tighten down (like we saw in Australia) and companies are forced to decide if they need to leave the market or not.

To answer the question, yes, gambling sites are always adding and subtracting countries and regions from the areas that they operate in. If you’re ever playing on a site that is planning on leaving your region, you will be given plenty of notice and information to be able to plan accordingly. But, it’s becoming much rarer to see gambling sites leaving markets and becoming much more popular to see them entering new markets as the world finally starts to become accepting of online gambling and online sports betting. You can only fight the convenience and awesomeness of technology for so long.

We hope that the information and recommendations we’ve provided for you today have been helpful in helping you to better understand the landscape of the online gambling industry. If you’re ready to get into the action, we recommend you scroll up and select the link to the country or region that you live in or are residing in. Remember, if you don’t see an option you like, check back periodically because we work hard to keep these lists up to date and there are always new players entering the market.
